"come rain, come shine, come snow, come sleet..."

I went sledding last night. I haven't been sledding in a long, long time. As a teenager I used to go tubing, but tubing and sledding are completely different. Tubing is much more safe and gentle. Sliding down a saucer on hard, compacted snow is much more fun. I had a great time and I am very sore. A couple of times I thought to myself, "Wow, that hurt a lot...this can't be good for me." But, all-in-all, I learned some important things:

falling off is much more fun than staying on

you can tell it's good if you're screaming the whole time and laughing at the end

even though it seems scary at first, spinning is better

You were always so much more daring than I was. I always liked that about you. This post just reminded me of that. Like how I was afraid to use your swing from the top stair because I could just imagine myself not making it and slamming, kneecaps first, into the metal perimeter of the trampoline. But you would just yell at me and go recklessly leaping off, miraculously unharmed every time.

Daring, eh? Maybe. Probably not in the most important ways, though. I mean, look at you! You're in a totally new country with totally new people...off on your own...learning a new culture. That is daring. And so are rope swings. Hoorah for rope swings!
