stroke of brilliance or just lameness?

I have an idea. A tenative suggestion, if you will.
What if we basically abandoned the idea of having seperate blogs and had only one which we shared? For instance, the recent conversation we've been having through email would be more convienient on a blog space. My blog is mostly for you two anyway. I think it might be ideal for us to just share one so each of us could post what she wished and we could all respond. For me, this would probably result in total abandonment of my blog because if I tried to split my attention between two, it would just never happen. I was trying to think, "What would I do on a personal blog that I couldn't do on a Jennifer-britta-Jessi blog?" and I couldn't come up with much. I suppose there would be fewer bitterness posts and less room for stuff like my background picture of Dave on Timp and things like that. There are downsides. But, we could personalize the template to our collective hearts' content and make it awesome and representative of each of us.
So, mull it over . . . think on it . . . ponder, if you will.
Then post some pros and cons and we'll see where this goes (if anywhere).

interesting.
hmm hmm hmm.
hmmm...
i would contribute. probably more so than my own blog, just like i comment way more than i post. i'm down for it. but i'd certainly keep my own blog, for the sake of my massive outside readership. y'know... my parents.
i was noticing myself that that last email exchange was very similar to a comment exchange. it's good because, unlike a telephone call, these things only take a couple minutes and i can do them whenever i have a bit of spare time. so much easier to keep friendships when you don't actually have to go through tht hassle of TALKING to people, don't you think?
let's do it.
See, therein lies the massive problem: gain a joint blog and loose the seperate ones? I keep thinking about it and I the more I do, the more I think it should basically be all-or-nothing. Like, it should be THE place online where the three of us communicate with ourselves and the rest of the world or we should just stick with the seperate ones. It just won't be all it could be if it's sort of a half-hearted attempt at having a joint blog along with the single one . . . it just seems like trying to keep a joint one in addition with the others would be setting ourselves up for failure.
So, we'd have to sort of give up our individuality . . . but at the same time, possibly become part of something greater and more successful . . . maybe.
Okay, "hassle of talking" sounded kind of strange.
But, I know what you're getting at. The internet makes communication very convenient.
see, but i don't think my reed friends or my parents would find much entertainment in our own personal conversations and raves about u2, y'know? i started my own blog in order to keep people updated about my stuff in england, and now my friends who never see me anymore (and there are MANY because reed =/ social) use it to internet-stalk me and pretend that we still see eachother. and i know my parents, haakan, and my sister read it to keep in touch. i think the two blogs would have very different purposes. one for you two, and the other for everyone else. i think it could work.
where is jessi on this?
and i agree about the "hassle of talking." heh. i was exaggerating in order to be humorous. guess it was a flop.
it's wierd. like after a while when i haven't spoken to jessi, she's always like, "oh! and did you hear that THIS happened!?" and i'm like, "um, yeah i know." because i read it on her blog, and she reads stuff on my blog. it seems fake, but it is real communication. it's wierd.
Way to talk about me like I'm not here.
I'll post thoughts after I get all this finals-funeral crap taken care of.
whoa! okay. no harm meant.
Yeah, britt, I know exactly what you're talking about when you want to keep in touch with parents and other friends. Jessi has other people too . . . so, I suppose it was mostly an idea for me.
And, I was just giving you a hard time about the communication thing. I think it is very convenient way to update each other when we don't have enough time to call each other.
The Sambucks thing made it onto 20/20's "Give Me A Break" segment.
I LOVE 20/20
I love John Stossel. And I love Barbara Walters a lot too.
whoa. sambuck's is making big waves. that's cool. i love little guy/ big guy stories. i think they help people see why buying local is actually very important.
mind if i blog that story as well?
are you giving up on the co-blog? i don't want you to. i think it's neat-o. i want to do it.
of course, none of the members of the 20/20 team can stack up to george stephanopoulos' hotness.
Well, I hadn't given up on the co-blog all together . . . it just . . . the idea has many problems. I'm curious what Jessi thinks of the idea. Her blog probably has the most outside-readership. We'll see.
Meanwhile, what do you think the title and web address of this hypothetical co-blog should be?
And please, blog about Sambuck's to your heart's content. I support that 100%. You know, I thought that everyone understood that local business is the best to support, but I have discovered that many people don't care. Astounding.
astounding indeed.
i'll work on the name thing.
I think the co-blog deserves at least a shot. If it ends up working, fabulous. If not, we delete it and it's gone.
I'll be thinking too. Also, think about what kind of format you want. Should we go the basic picture in the back with the scrolling words? I kind of like the idea of going in a new direction . . . but I don't have an idea for a new direction yet.
Jess, what do you think about all this? I would prefer to go with blogger.com on this one . . . but I might be open to other blog sites . . . if I can manipulate the code.
Here are my feelings:
I would not abandon my blogs for the sake of a sole J/J/b blog. It's true that I do have a lot of outside readership, and they probably don't want to wade through the life stories of people they don't know just to stay caught up with me.
However, I think it's an excellent idea for keeping the three of us in touch. Excellent idea.
But, then there's the little detail of how much I hate everything that isn't blog city. I think we should put this on hold, come home, get on a computer, tweak, and negotiate.
That's all I have to say until you guys come home. You have finals to think about, and I'm still working. So, let's reconvene on the 17th. Yeah? Good. Case closed.
i'm putting my foot down. i'm putting my FOOT DOWN! we do not have to use blogger if you're set against it, but i ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to use ANY service as HIDEOUS and GAUDY as blog-city simply because you're comfortable with it. i do not wish to be INSULTED by blog-city who assumes NO KNOWLEDGE of THE MOST BASIC computer functions. i also refuse to use a service that believes that CHOOSING TEMPLATES is an adequate swap for TOTAL CONTROL over EVERYTHING from the colors to the layout to the boxiness to the background picture. not to mention blog-city is a STUPID name for a blog service!
and did i mention the utter brilliance that collects around ANY project google takes up? BRILLIANCE BRILLIANCE BRILLIANCE!
ROAAAAAAR!
Stock in Google is at $400 a share. They're a corporation, and you are not a corporate whore. Congrats.
I love us. I absolutely do. Roar, britta. Roar like there's no tomorrow.
I didn't think you'd give up your blog Jess, it's okay. I'll probably end up keeping mine running too . . . just for the sake of my own identity.
I'm going to have to agree with britt that we say "no" to blogcity. There are plenty of blog-hosting sites, and we can choose one that's not blogger, but I, like britta, must have more control.
So, we shall reconvene and come to some sort of conclusion soon. Very, very soon.
At no point did I say that I would only participate if we used blog-city. I never considered you guys going for that. I just really loathe blogspot, is all. It looks pretty, but I just don't need all the bells and whistles. Give me a textbox and some color, and I'm happy.
But yeah, let's stop this here and continue when we get home.
stocks are high for different reasons. some companies exploit any country, people, organization, or government they can to maximize profit. other companies are simply brilliant and very very good at what they do. both techniques result in making money, which means that both will have high stock prices. i'm not intimidated by google's popularity. it's heartening to know that they're making a living out of doing something cool. check out google's ten percent rule sometime. i really like this company.
did you mean to say "now a corporate whore" or "not a corporate whore"? if not, i don't understand why you congratulated me on my non-corporate whoreness.
The Wikipedia page on Google is quite informative. Examine the way they treat their employees. When I said the ten percent rule before, it's actually the twenty percent rule. Google encourages their employees to dedicate twenty percent of their time to outside projects. These projects have eventually become things like Adsense, GoogleEarth and Gmail, and now Google Transit which combined the Portland Trimet system with the always amazing Google maps to create a public transit map sensation! (Coming soon to other cities.)
Did I mention that I love Google?
Dang it! I still can't do links. Someday I will get it. Someday.
Until then:

Now. You are NOW a corporate whore. But apparently, I can't type, so it all works out.
you gotta go here. this is sufjan steven's christmas album. some old favorites, and some originals too. he's a christian man, so they're actually about christmas, which is neat. you can download them because he has not released them on an album and has allowed the world access to his wonderful voice and amazing talent.
