GREATEST LOVE STORIES

I was thinking about this today. I was thinking about how much I liked Shyamalan's Unbreakable and how much I like Shyamalan. I thought, "Man, The Village has got to be my favorite love story...except for Rebecca, maybe." So, I've started a list. Suggestions are welcome.

GREATEST LOVE STORIES ON FILM:

1. GEORGE FORTESCU MAXIMILLIAN de WINTER and THE SECOND MRS. de WINTER
Rebecca 1940 - Alfred Hitchcock; LAURENCE OLIVIER and JOAN FONTAINE

2. LUCIUS HUNT and IVY WALKER
The Village 2004 - M. Night Shyamalan; JOAQUIN PHOENIX and BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD

3. SIR PERCY BLAKENEY and LADY MARGUERITE BLAKENEY
The Scarlet Pimpernel 1934 - Harold Young; LESLIE HOWARD and MERLE OBERON

4. BRICK POLLITT and MAGGIE POLLITT
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof 1958 - Richard Brooks; PAUL NEWMAN and ELIZABETH TAYLOR

5. PAUL VARJAK and HOLLY GOLIGHTLY
Breakfast at Tiffany's 1961 - Blake Edwards; GEORGE PEPPARD and AUDREY HEPBURN

"come rain, come shine, come snow, come sleet..."

I went sledding last night. I haven't been sledding in a long, long time. As a teenager I used to go tubing, but tubing and sledding are completely different. Tubing is much more safe and gentle. Sliding down a saucer on hard, compacted snow is much more fun. I had a great time and I am very sore. A couple of times I thought to myself, "Wow, that hurt a lot...this can't be good for me." But, all-in-all, I learned some important things:

falling off is much more fun than staying on

you can tell it's good if you're screaming the whole time and laughing at the end

even though it seems scary at first, spinning is better
