all of these lines across my face . . .

I just discovered to this song called "The Story" by Brandi Carlile and I am interested to know what you think of it.

I bet you're going to say what I said . . . which would be, "freaking amazing". This woman's voice is so powerful. I can't stop listening to it. It's one of those songs you wonder how you lived without for so long. Makes me love and appreciate life and music and love just a little more.

So, go here and listen to the little clip.

Her voice is killer! I really like the emotion she can get out of it. Her melody reminds me a lot of Rufus Wainwright.

But as far as the lyrics-- I don't understand what the spinner blogger was saying about putting eggs in a basket. It seems like a straight up love song to me. I didn't hear any "buts" about it. I guess I would've liked to have heard the subtle contradictions he wrote about, but I just didn't. "I was made for you." Pure and simple. (With the obligatory climbing mountains and crossing oceans to get to you references.)

I actually didn't even read that blogger caption dealy. That was just a page I found the song on so you could listen to it.

Yeah, the lyrics are pretty straightforward and mostly trite . . . I'd say I like about half of them.

But . . . it's all about the voice and the music!! I love the guitar/drum solo after the second verse/chorus combo (AKA in the middle of the song). Nothing quite like drums minus cymbals. Mmmm.

Yeah, and you gotta love those songs that start off all sing-songy and sweet, but then let the drums really kick in 2/3 through. Totally rockin.
